Alternate Realities

Alternate Realities was a large 3D artist collaboration project, where each artist was tasked with creating a unique environment around a provided mocap animation. My contribution focused on a fantasy world, shrouded in mystery, where the main character traverses a harsh desert landscape filled with mysterious entities.

Process

Initially, my concept was simple, but as I progressed, I had the opportunity to experiment and refine the environment. I started with broad strokes, gradually adding detail. Notable techniques included using Marvelous Designer’s physics engine and wind parameters to animate clothing and telephone wires, and particle simulations in Maya to animate moth swarms around light fixtures.

Results

I am proud of the final result. The project pushed me to think creatively and utilize my tools in innovative ways. Contributing to such a large and unique collaboration was highly rewarding, and the feedback from peers was positive, highlighting the depth and detail of my environment.

This project taught me how to create smoke simulations and work with mocap data, enhancing my technical skills and expanding my ability to tackle complex challenges within tight deadlines. It was a valuable experience in both creative problem-solving and efficient workflow management.
